Ripped from the pages of some of Hip-Hop’s most influential websites and provocative magazines, freelance writer and radio personality LaDessa aka Willow has taken on a new challenge Introduced to her readers through sites like ballerstatus.com, allhiphop.com, Don Diva and Seaspot magazine, LaDessa has challenged herself in ways she never imagined. Yet from the very first time she blessed the microphone on KBCS 91.3 FM she knew speaking to the masses was nothing shy of second nature.

After years of freelance writing, broadcasting on terrestrial and Internet radio without getting what she considered her big break in radio; LaDessa, has brought her moniker “Willow” to life through a fictional tale. Her debut novel, “I Can’t Live Without My Radio” is sure to impress those who were introduced to her prior to adding authoress to her resume. If the book’s title sounds a little familiar, it should. The book’s title carries the same sentiment it did in 1985 when LL Cool J made it a classic jam.

When asked how she came up with the title, LaDessa simply answered, “I have wanted to be on the radio since I was a little girl, so there was no other title more fitting for my literary debut. And because I wasn’t able to be on 1250 AM KFOX in my hometown of Seattle, WA when I was a little girl. I made sure that was where the main character, Brooklyn “Willow” Waters made her debut. I had to represent for my hometown.”

Though LaDessa, still desires to make her commercial radio debut, she has found a new way through the writing, to live out her heart’s desire. “I figured if I could not live it, I most definitely could write it. Bringing this Willow to life with no relation to her journey or her trials was something that made me fall in love with radio all over again.”
